Hamster has scabs and crust around mouth?????

Our current Syrian had similar to this when he was a baby and bar chewed a lot. Since he calmed down it has not come back. I notice you have a wire wheel too, might he have got caught?

If you do have to go, I would recommend Dr. Lois, as she is the only vet that has taken care of my hamsters. I believe there is another vet that takes care of small rodents there, but I haven't ever had him treat my hamsters before. (Although I'm sure he is just as good!)

If the mesh doesn't look chewed anywhere he could still have been trying to poke his nose through the holes maybe but the wheel could well be the problem, can you thread some card through it or something, as it is it's a real hazard for your ham.

You would be surprised, they are very sneaky and able to climb things to get up there easily. He may have even been chewing that wheel. Is there any way you could get a solid wheel? If not you need to put seething like cardboard on it so his feet can't fall through and if he is chewing the wheel that would also stop.

In the first pics there is what looks like chewed clear plastic. Perhaps that is where the cuts are from?

Hope he heals up soon and that you make a beautiful diy cage for him. He is lovely.

Thanks allot everyone! I'm replacing his wheel, I think that may be what he was chewing on, and im going to see if the scabs heal and go away

Only thing I see that may cause the sores is the hard straw bits on the roof of the hut, If they don't go away with a new wheel, or get worse a Vet trip would be a most do as the first sign of Hamster Polyoma Virus AKA HaPV is small blisters on the mouth and chin. This nasty Virus has reared it's ugly head recently in Florida so with Georgia so close by it is not unforeseeable it would make it's way to Georgia. They have a test for it in Canada now but it is not cheap by any means to have done but I pray it is just chewing wounds as there is no cure for HaPV and it is HIGHLY contagious to other hamsters.

I hope it isn't that. It does look like he might have been chewing at something mesh - most likely the wheel, which seems to be mesh rather than barred - and he might do that if he got his foot caught or something. I can recommend the new Silent Runner wheel! I would change the wheel asap or he could hurt a leg. I think I'd even take it out now.

I had to switch it with a medium silent spinner but it's actually too small for him. It's one iv had, i just ordered a perfect size comfort wheel today so it'll be here in a couple of days. I really hope it solves it and he heals poor baby
