Dwarf scent gland question

Hello,
i have a male winter white. His scent gland was always noticeable, but today i noticed that he has the fur around it is just a little, little bit yellow (or more just looks sort of different compared to the normal fur). He is around 5 months old, acting normal, food and drinking normal, running around etc. and not scratching it or anything.
So i went online and there seems to be some info like this: "Dwarf scent glands can be a lot more problematic. They are found on a males belly in roughly the place you would expect a belly button and are usually stained yellow. Due to their location they can easily become infected, either due to the hamster over scenting or due to bedding particles getting stuck. Check any male dwarf’s gland regularly; if it starts to look crusty simply wipe it over with a damp cotton bud very gently."
So can i just wipe of the ... not so crusty fur? I pressed a little bit the skin with the cotton pad around the gland, no pus or any discharge...

So the question is: can i try to wipe it out with cotton driped in previously boiled water AND do you see this little bit of crusting/colouring on your dwarfs?

I know im panicky but i just adore him...:)

Re: Dwarf scent gland question

It sounds like a perfectly normal male scent gland Katty. The tummy fur in a mature male is often yellowish as the scent ooses on to the fur. They can get infected but then they look swollen and redish with a pus like discharge. Keep it clean by wiping with a wet cotton ball gently and check often but I think he seems fine. All ours have this yellowish colouring.
