Scabs on tail??
Hiya,
I noticed something on my nearly 1 year old Syrian hamster tonight as I was taking her out to play. She has scabby parts (I think) on her tail, and i'm not too sure what to think of it. She's acting totally normal, active, let me pick her up happily for playtime and didn't react when I took a look at her tail. Her bum isn't wet or anything and she's walking fine.
Does anyone know what this could be? - They can't have been there longer than a day.
Thankyou!

Re: Scabs on tail??
Could it be dry skin or something maybe?

Re: Scabs on tail??
I'm honestly not sure, it doesn't seem to be affecting her in anyway. It doesn't look like dry skin though, more like a burn or scab - but I can't think of how she got it.

Can you take a pic and post it in this thread?

Re: Scabs on tail??
I can't see that...don't know if other people can on Onedrive? Never used it so don't know how it works though!
Nelly had something similar recently, the underside of her tail was one big sore/scab. It didn't seem to bother her at all, I never saw her licking it or anything but it got so sore very quickly, I was so worried. I was about to take her to the vet as one night I got her out and it was red and swollen, then all when I got her out to check the next day it had started getting better. I took out her wheel and sand bath and covered over her woodshavings with a layer of carefresh just to try and take anything abrasive out of her environment. It took a couple of weeks to heal up. No idea what caused it! Keeping a good eye on it though in case it comes back. She was so happy when I finally put her wheel and sand back, bless her

Re: Scabs on tail??
Okay, Bear already has carefresh as her bedding and I cleaned her out last night and checked all her toys for hard/rough edges etc. I think she might go a little crazy if I take the wheel out though! It doesn't seem to bother her at all at the moment, it looks a little like carpet burn maybe but it's nowhere else on her which is a little weird. I will keep a close eye on it then - Thanks.
