Default Teeth growing apart

I noticed my hammy's teeth growing apart. Is this really serious, how can we slow it down?

Hi, welcome to HC. I'm sorry you're having trouble with your hammy. Unfortunately, the pictures aren't working so I can't see what their teeth looks like. If your hammy has been chewing the bars of their cage then they can catch them on the bars and damage them so they grow in different directions. If the teeth aren't properly aligned, then they won't get worn down naturally by chewing and will overgrow so will probably have to be clipped at the vet each time they get too long. I don't have any experience with this but one of the more experienced members can probably give you some more information. If you could post the photos again it will give a better idea of what the problem might be.

I think Velma said it all really, without a photo we can't say for sure quite what's going on with your hams teeth, it's good that you've seen there is a problem though as it may need vet care.

I'm sorry the images don't work. I'll try again.

He's more willing to let me pull back to see his teeth now if you guys need a clearer picture. (I took these two when he was asleep)

He must sleep very soundly!
They don't look normal, keep a close eye on how he's managing with food, it's a good idea to weigh them regularly to check for any changes as it's not always easy to tell just what they eat or hoard, if they seem to be growing too long & not wearing down get your vet to check them out.

How do you determine if it's too long?
He still does chew on the wooden chew that he's given.
We're planning to take him to a vet that does see to hamsters but it's far and will take some time to plan.

If you scroll down a bit there's a picture in this thread that might help, I don't think I can describe it any better, maybe someone else can?
