Poorly eyes
I noticed yesterday that it looks like my hamster has been starching her eye. Her face has swollen a bit too. The other eye is slightly closed. I am thinking of taking her to the vets. She is 2 and a half years old, sleeps a lot but is lively when out. I think she also has a tumour on head - she has had this for months and it does not seem to bother her.
Any advice would be great

Re: Poorly eyes
She's a great age now!
It does sound as though a trip to the vet would be a good idea, her eye could have got an infection which may respond to antibiotics but only a vet can say for sure, it wouldn't hurt to have the growth or tumour checked out too.

Re: Poorly eyes
Yes, I also agree with cypher, a vet visit certainy wouldn't hurt.. I wish I could give more advice, but I really wouldn't know unless I saw. BTW 2 and a half is really remarkable age for a ham. Congratulations!
EDIT: Is your hamster a dwarf/robo or a syrian?)

Re: Poorly eyes
I agree with the vet trip. If she does have a lump and it hasn't grown then it might not be bothering her too much but it is always best to get it checked out x

Re: Poorly eyes
Hopefully the vet will be able to do something to relieve the eyes and diagnose the lump She sounds lovely. You could get him to check her teeth out while you're there too in case you need to adjust her diet a bit as she gets older

Re: Poorly eyes
I took my hamster to the vets on Friday and she had to be put to sleep. It was the tumour that was growing and making her face swell which started to affect the eyes. I am heart broken as it was a hard thing to do and the first time I have had to do it. RIP little one - going to miss you.
