I know - if I had to rely on the local pet shop I'd be stumped! I guess the internet has some good uses!

Hello again, just to say you clearly have the best interests of your hamster at heart and are trying your best to find answers before you make a decision, so you are a good owner! It's sad about your asthma, its so frustrating when health gets in the way. It would be bad to sacrifice your health for your animal, much better that you both end up in the right conditions. And you have come to the right place as people on here will be honest about what they think and give you their opinion but it's not a judgemental forum. I hope you find a kind person who would take your hamster in if you decide its best

Btw I did have one thought, I bought an air purifier when I was struggling with allergies, they really work. I'm not sure it would fix everything completely but it would reduce the problem anyway

I thought of that too Herbi! I was reading up about them when we nearly bought a house with a lot of mould. The good ones that filter out everything, are quite expensive though. But many reviewers said it made their asthma a lot better and got rid of smells as well as dust and mould spores. there are lots of under £100 ones that don't do that much. The effective one costs about £899! So very expensive but sounds like an excellent thing for asthma. The reviews are all positive. I don't think I'd spend that much on it unless I couldn't manage the asthma some other way!

Mine wasn't that expensive its called a roomaid, its got a filter for VOCs too. I got it as I'm really bad with chemicals and paint fumes etc, I was a bit sceptical but it cleared the air in no time and clears it of pollen too. Only costs as much as a light bulb to run.

I`ve have changed at the cage today, and I gave her first price toilet paper in small pieces. Then I will find out if it is the carefreh I react on.

That sounds good. I hope it didn't bother you too much changing her. To be honest, I think plain white paper or toilet paper must be fine because I don't think it's possible to be allergic to toilet paper. But the dust from Carefresh definitely got up my nose and breathing wise - it was a very fine cloud of dust in the air from it.

Does it affect your skin if you handle your hammy? That's how I can tell if I'm allergic to an animal as I get itchy and come out in a rash - and for me it's wonderful that this doesn't happen with hamsters as it does with just about every other hairy pet! If not then it is more likely the bedding you are allergic too, and Herbi's air purifier sounds like a good way of keeping down the smells! I think you're right Herbi, most of them do the air purifying bit, even the cheaper ones - that expensive one is supposed to remove the tiniest micro-organisms in the air too, which is a bit more extreme!

It was actually really nice too change at the cage.

It does not affect my hands. I think I might react at dogs, but not my hammy. I must say that the asthma is not the only thing alone why I would reconsider a new home for her.

I must say that I have tried to find a new home for her before, but some of the people in the other hamster group did react because of her age.
I did talk too a vet for some days ago, the only near my town who has small animals as a specialty. She said that as long as the hammy`s health is fine, I could find a new home for her. I should just ensure that the new owners know that she doesn`t have so much time left.

I just wonder, what would you write if you were in the same situation as me and had to make an advertisement?
