Sticky eye
Hey, I'm back ! Sorry I took so long guys and I haven't answered on the behaviour thread yet, but I went down with a cold a few days ago and I'm still feeling awful to be honest. ^^'
So bad news, Pêche's left eye is all watery and he barely managed to open it. I had noticed during the scent gland incident that his left eye seemed a little watery, but after panicking so much I thought maybe it's just my imagination and since he seemed very healthy otherwise I didn't think much more of it.
Although I got a glimpse of his face very briefly yesterday evening, I thought his eye still looked a little wet so decided to be careful about it. Tonight I was worried Pêche didn't come out at all despite the late hour and me leaving my room for long lengths of time by which he should've already hoarded all the food. So I decided to check up on him and lift his house, and to my horror I saw his left eye was completely sticky and he couldn't open it. His ears were also drawn back, I don't know if this is relevant in this situation.
I know there are other threads about sticky eyes and I tried to google it but I really can't figure out what to do now apart from seeing a vet but tomorrow vet's closed. So if you guys could help me out again I'd be extremely thankful.

Re: Sticky eye
Sticky eyes really aren't that uncommon & in most cases will just clear up without any intervention, if it remains like that for a while you can gently bath with a tissue soaked in saline solution, if that doesn't do the trick, it keeps recurring or there's any sign of infection then you will need the vet to have a look.
I would imagine his eyes may have been down because you lifted his house off him but it can be a sign that they're unwell so do keep a close check on his general behaviour as much as the eye.

Re: Sticky eye
Cypher has given good advice, also did u know hamsters can catch our colds? Don't get too close to him and wash your hands before putting his food in if you're still infectious.

Re: Sticky eye
Yes I know about the cold thing, that's why since I got sick I was careful to stay away and wash my hands when giving him his food and all that. ^^' Only exception I guess was when I lifted the house (but even then I'd washed my hands previously).
Anyways, thank you guys for your replies ! It's just that since sticky eyes supposedly happen to older hamsters usually I was worried and I do hope Pêche isn't sick or has an infection. I'll check up on him tonight and maybe try cleaning his eye with saline solution and a cloth or tissue.

Re: Sticky eye
Hello everyone ! I'm back, still not feeling too well actually turns out my sickness was due to an allergic reaction and I have a pretty bad case of asthma right now which is why I've been away for so long.
Just an update concerning Pêche's eye, it was difficult to find a vet who takes care of small animals like hamsters, but finally, found one pretty far from home and turns out something probably got into his eye and he had a small infection, he's gonna be fine and he's getting the right treatment ! Apart from that he's very active and healthy, he just hates being handled when we have to treat his eye. ^^'

Re: Sticky eye
Glad you managed to find a vet and that Peche is going to be fine. My lovely Woodstock (white fluffy syrian) had to go to the vet recently and got covered in mite treatment!!!
Such a worry when they arent well. Hope Peche is on the mend and that he comes round to being handled once his meds are finished!

Re: Sticky eye
Great to hear you found a vet to help & Pêche's eye is getting treated now, I hope it's all better soon, hope your asthma improves soon too.
