Default Diabetes in Winter Whites

It has always been my understanding that Winter Whites are not really prone to diabetes however I have been told this is no longer the case and that breeders are now having to test for it before breeding and in their pups.

Does everyone know this? How long has that been happening and could it, perhaps, be just a line that got bred in that could be bred out again with careful breeding practices?

Winter Whites whatever the case are prone to diabetes, I am not sure what you mean regarding the breeding part but this species of hamsters along with Campbells Dwarf Hamsters and Chinese Hamsters.

It was always my understanding that in the UK we had kept pure lines and that in the wild they were not prone to diabetes so should not show in pure, pedigree, bloodlines.

That's always been my understanding too, I haven't heard about a problem with WW's but I don't really keep up with breeding info.
