Peeing blood?
Hi all,
I was just doing a cage cleanout for Tyrion when I noticed in his playpen there was a pool of orangey-water. I assumed instantly it was pee, and that concerns me. I gently picked him up and surveyed his belly and there does appear to be a slight staining from his parts, so I'm fairly certain he is peeing either blood or something else abnormal.
I plan on watching him for awhile to see if he continues to pee like this, and if so I'm going to assume I should take him to a vet?
Thanks for any help or insight you can give me!
ADDED NOTE:
I gave him a walnut recently and he likes his seeds (though I try to limit how many he gets). Is it possible he's getting too much protein? Maybe this is a silly question, but I figure this is the place to ask it! I did also give him a very very small piece of red apple just a few minutes before I put him in the play pen. It also looks like whatever apple he'd eaten he unpouched too, as there was a small chunk near the spot. Could that explain the red? I'm just confused because it seemed there was a small stain on his privates too.

Re: Peeing blood?
Hamster pee is normally quite dark & concentrated so I'm not sure if what you're seeing is blood in the urine or not tbh, is he drinking more or less than normal? Even if it isn't blood there could still be a problem that needs checking, keep a very close eye on him & his pee area to see if there are any more signs, if you do see blood or you're seeing a noticeable change in his pee definitely take him to a vet.
If there is a problem it's more likely to be a UTI than too much protein in his diet, that can cause kidney problems but I doubt he's having that much unless he's also having things like chicken or mealworms or other protein supplement foods as well as the nuts & seeds.
If it is a UTI he'll need some antibiotics but it should clear up ok with treatment.

Re: Peeing blood?
Thank you, Cypher. I have been checking his pee spot and everything looks completely normal. I have just never noticed his pee THAT dark before, it was very strange!

Re: Peeing blood?
That's good, maybe he just hadn't been drinking much & it was a bit more concentrated than normal.

Re: Peeing blood?
Maybe cut down on his fruit and vegetables, that can trigger dark pee.
Twinkle had this and I reduced hers and it helped.
