Does Autumn need surgery?
My Syrian hamster Autumn has hurt herself sadly, and it appears to be one of her legs . Yesterday, when I went to take her out to play with her for a while, I felt a little bump close to where her leg was. I checked her, and it appears that she has a little bump the size of a grape. She cant was very well. She wobbles and whimpers in pain when shes walking. I just don't know how it happened. Did she fall, or did it just randomely fall. Hopefullyi get to take her to the vet tomorrow to get it checked out, but I wanted to know if this has happened to a hamster that you guys own, and what can I do for my hamster. Im currently helping her with stuff, such as feeding her, and putting her water bottle closer. I just hope that what she has isn't to serious, or deadly

Re: Does Autumn need surgery?
You defenitly need to take her to the vet, and they will give their opinion. I know this may be hard for you, but if she is in pain and the vet thinks the surgery will be too risky or hard on her, the most humane option would be to put her down so that she is not in pain.

Yes. You really need to take her to the vet. Get her in as soon as you can. Then you can go from there.

I agree with the others, you'll only worry yourself sick if you don't make an appointment.

Re: Does Autumn need surgery?
Hi jackieandhammie. It`s possible that she taken a fall but she may also have caught her leg or pulled it. Seeing a vet will tell you one way or the other for some closure. Is her cage tall?
It`s always best to seek a vets help when these things happen especially if she`s not able to walk properly or she seems in pain. The vet will help, believe me. Le us know how Autumn is and try not to worry. Pad out a safe carrier or plastic box with a lid and make her as comfortable as you can and see a vet as soon as you can. Tell them your hamster really does need seen sooner rather than later as you suspect a break.
