Default possible eye problem

Ive only had Harold just over a week and we are slowly going through the taming process, he will come to the cage door to take tasty treats but isnt comfortable being handled yet. Ive noticed tonight as he woke up , i was putting his food in so was being nosey ( hes since gone back to bed lol ) , that his one eye seems partially closed and im worried it need bathing. Without being able to hold him yet im concerned about it. could it be that its just because hes just woken up ?? or something more sinister. hes around 12-14 weeks approx

Hello,

If he had just woken up, it's extremely likely he's just got sleepy eyes. My syrian hamster gets this at times, and eventually his eyes widen right up. If you don't see swelling or puss or any other sign of infection, I would guess Harold is just a sleepy ham.

I agree it could just be that Harold had just woken, usually hams will fix it themselves. But, if he doesn't then you could always use a cotton pad dipped in lukewarm water and gently wipe his eye.
If there's any swelling then he'll probably need a prescription from the vet.
