Default Sand bath question!

I am using chincilla sand, which is apparently fine. Because my hamster likes to dig so much, I placed a deep dish into his cage and put A LOT of sand in it.

Can that be harmful to him, can he drown in it?

And when i was putting the sand in I could see there was a lot of sand flying around in the air. Will the large quantity of sand hurt his respiratory system?

That should be fine, it does fly everywhere when they have a good dig or roll around but it'll just settle into the substrate & as long as you're using chinchilla sand not dust won't harm your ham, it doesn't really need to be all that deep but don't worry your ham isn't going to drown!
