Default Fluffy bedding blog and more

After another case of a Hammy being harmed by fluffy bedding, I decided to start a blog - tips on nesting, care and cleaning (related to nesting). I haven't done a blog before so it looks a bit bland! The topic on fluffy bedding is underneath the cage cleaning topic.

Just a bid to keep trying to spread the message! Any constructive feedback would be welcome!

Ah, how do you share it on Facebook...? I could share it on Smokey's page if I knew how!

Oh thank you! It is a bit long I guess but hopefully people will read it! I didn't know you could share it on Facebook either.

I'm not quite sure how to swap the two posts around so the first one (the Fluffy bedding one) comes at the top! Done it - I just changed the time it was posted.

Still working my through the blog but looks really good so far. I am also learning about child care apparently just alerted my office about

"just as putting a 15 tog duvet on an under 10 year-old child’s bed is a death trap (children can’t regulate body heat under the age of 10)."

None of us knew that and one of my colleagues is expecting his first child.

I haven't read all of it yet but it does look really good, I'll bookmark it (not on facebook!) so I can pass it on to anyone who might need to know more, thanks for that.

Crikey! I know we found out all this stuff with little boy when researching duvets after he outgrew his toddler blanket. We ended up getting his first duvet from the White Company who had all the right tog ratings for age groups and the duvets washed well and easily and didn't go lumpy. It wasn't the cheapest. I think it was no more than 4 tog until they are 6 or 7 - after that about 7.5 tog to 9 tog maximum and they can have 10.5 tog after they are 10. We kept with the 4 tog one until last year and had a blanket we could add for extra warmth in cold weather or throw off in warm weather. The other duvet we got when he was little was a wool filled one from John Lewis which is suitable for all year round - warm when it's cold and cool when it's warm. Toddler size again.

He's 7 and a half now and has a 7.5 tog in winter with the blanket if necessary and still a 4 tog in summer.

There's a bit about it on the White Company duvet guide below - although they just say small bodies get hotter than adult ones, but really its about them not developing full temperature regulation in the early years so if they get too hot they overheat. Now he'd older he just pushes the duvet off if he gets too hot
