Question Syrian sleeping a lot?

Hey again,

We're getting a little bit worried about Faolan as he's been sleeping a lot recently? He's usually awake by about 9pm, but it's now 11.30 and he's still asleep. He keeps getting up to eat a tiny bit and have a little bit of water but then takes himself straight back to bed?

The room isn't cold, and we now have a thermometer that we check regularly and it says the temperature is still 20C.

One of his eyes looks a little bit swollen which we think might be from the ne Carefresh substrate that we've been using. We went out today to get some new aspen substrate to swap it to in the hope that it will help him be less itchy (as we've seen some posts that say it can be a little dusty and might cause itchiness), but we haven't been able to put it in yet as he hasn't been awake for long enough for us to take him out of the cage.

Does anybody have any advice?

Default Re: Syrian sleeping a lot?

Ours is a dormouse - sleeps all the time lol! Except between about 11pm and 6am and even then he has naps during the night I reckon. I've noticed Charlie waking later since we've had the central heating on too. He's probably warm and cosy.

That sounds like a typical evening to me. Wakes up for a drink and goes back to bed. Charlie definitely seems to keep to his house more in the winter, and is up more and more active in the summer.

We have a set time to wake him for out of cage time, as 11.30pm is too late. 8pm to 9pm is the best time for me, so I do a bit of noisy cage stuff when putting his food out around 8pm and that wakes him up, then I put a tube at his house door with a treat in the far end and he tends to walk in to get it. I then have him out on the sofa where he usually goes to sleep lol! Under an arm or a blanket. If I get him out at 11pm he's quite active and can't keep him on the sofa. They all vary in their sleeping habits.

It's supposed to be ok to get them in a routine of being woken at a certain time each day, so that might be an idea. We used to do it at 6pm so our little boy could have time with Charlie, but that was such a hectic time of night for me and little boy has lost interest anyway lol!
