Default My Syrian hamster coco is acting strange

I am a new proud owner of a Syrian hamster. I have no idea or knowledge on hamsters, only what i got told at the pet shop. I'm sure/hope that I'm overreacting and worrying, but I feel that my hamster is acting a little weird. I have only had my hamster for 6 days, but have paid close attention to his routine. I wake for work at 7, by then coco usually is asleep. I get home from work at 6 and coco will wake between 6pm-8pm. I know coco is probably still getting a routine but today, as its a Saturday, I went out and got home around 4pm (which during the week I'm usually at work) and I noticed that coco was awake. I Found this really strange as I thought he slept for the whole day. When he was awake, his ears were back and he was a little shaky. He had some water and then picked up a bit of his saw dust and began to eat it, so I cleaned out his food bowl and refilled it. Coco then went and explored his cage, but was still slow and shaky. I noticed that a patch of his fur looked wet and I'm hoping it's because he went under his water bottle but I can't be sure. Should I be worried? Or could I maybe just have disturbed him by coming in when he's asleep, and waking him up, therefore the lethargic behaviour? Sorry if this sounds really silly and a massive essay, just I'm really inexperienced and would love to hear people's thoughts and advice. Thank you so much

Welcome to HC mason h92 and a big welcome to Coco- great name of course!
Nothing silly about your questions and this is the best place for advice. Others have better knowledge than I do but this is what I think.
Syrians do come out during the day but only for a short time. Usually this is to have a drink, pee or a quick bite of food. Then it's back to bed. The laid back ears sound like a sleepy ham. The wobbly gait may well be the same. Just watch him when properly awake again.
Is the damp patch of fur around his hip area? If it is , it is most likely to be his scent gland which he had been using to mark his territory. He has one on each side. It will dry off again but appears wet any time he uses it.
I hope your use of the word sawdust is a mistake and you really mean wood shavings.?
Just leave him to hamster around his cage to settle in for a couple of weeks. He will be scenting his territory as he settles in. Dont touch his cage to clean it at all for at least a month. All you need do is spot clean his pee corner when he chooses one. Hamsters love and need their own smell and regular cleaning stresses them out.
What sort of cage do you have for Coco?
Any more questions, do ask. People are very helpful here. I Have learnt a lot.
