HELP - My Syrian hamster (her name is Potato) is super sick..
On Friday night, I heard a big thump (Potato likes to try and escape her 20 gallon tank) so I rushed down to see and she was fine. The following day... I noticed that her stomach seems a bit swollen and I felt a pea size lump on the right side of her stomach, she wasn't bothered when I massaged it... But I still made an appointment with the vet to check it out. She was semi-active (still wanted to be carried out of her cage to run around and still had an appetite for food (I feed her a mixture of broccoli, apple, romaine lettuce and nectarine along with her Timothy Hay dry food)
At the vet, she was still semi active, her coat was still nice and groomed, she wasn't bothered by the vet touching her tummy or lump. The vet said it could either be an infection, abcesss or tumour so she sent me home with antibiotics for an infection first before moving into abcess or tumour. The antibiotics includes Sunshine Factor, Milk Thistle and Enrofloxacin.
After I fed Potato all these antibiotics - she was still eating - but she started to sleep a lot more often. Tuesday evening arrives and I noticed how thin she has gotten... She went from 165g on Wednesday to 155g on Friday and 140 g on Tuesday. She's super weak, she does not want to eat at all. I've mushed up broccoli and apples to feed her, I've gone out to purchase Greek yogurt and baby food to feed her (she ate like the size of the tip of a plastic spoon) - I've been feeding her pedialyte to keep her semi hydrated. She's in horrible condition today, her poos are quite wet but still solid? She hasn't groomed herself, all she wants to do is sleep. Her body temp is on the cooler side, I've been keeping her in a towel on my chest whenever I get the chance. I can feel all her bones... And the lump is still there... But it has moved from the right to the center/left. I don't know what to do at this point. She'd be waaaay too weak for surgery or for the vet to get a sample of her mass to analyze. I need help.
I got her in July... She has only been with me for 3 months and I'm upset that she will be passing soon. I don't think she'll make it. Vet thinks Potato is 9 months +
