Default My Hamster Died Today T~T

This morning my hamster died & I'm not exactly sure what the cause may have been. I felt that it was too soon & unexpected...

She's a long hair Syrian hamster and was only 1 years old (assuming if the store is right about her starting age).

As for what happened...
Last night she was pooping & suddenly did some weird twitch and just laid there flat breathing & wheezing rapidly with her eyes open. It was literally midnight so I didn't know what to do. My friend that owned hamsters told me to put her back in her cage & let her sleep in clean bedding until tomorrow when I can take her to the vet.

So I did & the next morning I found her not in her sleeping area but in the area she normally pees at. She was hunched over so when I picked her up, her bottom was wet like she was sitting in her own pee since there wasn't any bedding near her to soak it up. I'm pretty sure it wasn't wet tail because there were no signs of diarrhea. When I picked her up she was super cold so I held her in a towel and she got warm for a bit.

But after a few minutes I saw her eyes wide open & making gasping motions with her mouth & then saw a bit of bubbles / liquid came out of her nose. After that she suddenly froze and a bit of water & blood came out of her mouth & I panicked because she just laid there lifeless in my hands.... :c

My apologies for the graphic description but I just don't know if I did anything wrong that may have caused her death. She is my first hamster but I would constantly research online to make sure I didn't feed her anything she shouldn't eat. But even though she was a healthy hamster, I noticed she slept a lot. She only seemed to be awake about only 6 - 7 hours a day. She did run on her wheel when she was awake, but not as much as she did before when she was younger. I don't know if I overfed her or if I didn't play with her enough or played with her too much..

sorry for my long rambling, this is all so sudden for me.
I never expect her to pass so soon, I expected at least one more year since their average lifespan is 2-3 years T.T

That must have been a shock but it's not going to be anything you did. Sadly theres no guarantees and things go wrong. Please don't think you did anything wrong, you've clearly been looking after her. Although it was a shock you were with her at the end and I'm sure she was comforted to know that.

So sad that she took an acute illness Bobo, I`m sad to hear you have lost your little friend, she looks peaceful in her resting box, bless her. It`s never easy to say why they suddenly get ill and you don`t get time to help them.

If she was eating well and her environment was safe and she wasn`t exposed to anything that may have causes a reaction, chances are she`s had an internal issue going on. Some hamsters just die young sadly through no fault of their own or their owner. Please don`t let her untimely death put you off having another hamster, perhaps a rescue? Did she have a name? x

I'm so sorry that your hamster died. I'm sure it wasn't anything that you did wrong. Some hamsters are just not meant to be with us for as long as others. Hugs xx

I'm so sorry for your loss bobo & that it happened like this, it must have been a terrible shock but as the others have said it does sometimes happen for reasons we just can't know & it isn't that you did anything wrong.
