Default Lazy Hamster?

Hello,

So I have noticed recently that my hamster Poppet doesn't come out much, she wakes up about 9 in the evening but is asleep again by 1 in the morning. She is healthy and bright eyed so I don't think she is ill but has anyone got any suggestions to maybe make her come out more or do I just have a lazy hamster?
Thanks

Unless you literally spend 100% of your time watching them, you don't really know how active they are lol! Hamsters aren't nocturnal they are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at twilight and first thing before the sun gets up.

My ham gets up around 6:30-7pm for playtime, because we've trained him (or he trained us is more accurate I think!). He is then active until around 11pm, I usually go to sleep, around then but I can tell from checking his cage that he gets up again during the night/early morning again, on the days we have to get up at 6am he is usually up and about. Then he comes out for cuddles and porridge around 8:30 am for about half an hour, then he takes himself off to bed for the day.

I don't know where you are in the world, but now the temperature has dropped, if your ham's routine has changed, it might be worth checking if the room he is in is warm enough? I held off turning on the heating for a few days after it got colder and I noticed Nibble wouldn't come out in the evenings for love nor money, but when the room was heated he was back to his old routine immediately.

I agree it's not really possible to know just how active they are unless you sit by the cage all night!
How old is your ham now? Even if she isn't old some slow down a bit quicker than others & are a little less active, that & the time of year may explain changes in behaviour.
As long as you get to see her daily so you can tell if she's looking healthy, eating & drinking fine then I wouldn't worry, although we all do!
