Bit concerned over my Syrian changing colour?
I have a 11 month old sable Syrian. Shorthair. I noticed he is getting a darker brown on most of his body, but he is getting lighter and lighter by the day on his rear end. He seems his usual self, but I have always had a problem with him peeing in his bed. I do change his bedding and clean the substrate underneath regularly. I know it's normal for a hamster to change colour, but because he pees, I am worried maybe the ammonia is bleaching his rear end? I know it sounds weird, but I am a little concerned. It started happening last week and tonight he looks like he has gone to the salon and tried to have a lightning job done and it's gone semi ginger.

Re: Bit concerned over my Syrian changing colour?
He may be browning out which is normal in sables as they age. Unless he is soaking his bum in wee I doubt his lighter bum is from the wee bleaching him out.

Thank you. His bum isn't wet at all. So maybe he is just changing colour. I've never seen a Syrian change colour on just the top part. Bless him. He is starting to look like a little bear

Re: Bit concerned over my Syrian changing colour?
As Nancy said they lighten as they age, Winston, My syrian boy is a black banded and he almost looks like a tort now because he has really ginger patches on the lower part of his back. It's just what happens with age, he's 1 year 3 months old
