Thumbs down Sick Robo please help

I just adopted a roborovski hamster on the 2nd of this month, when I got him home I noticed he makes little clicking squeaky noise whilst wandering every few seconds, he soon went off to sleep and the next day today I noticed he is still making them, he doesn't do it whilst sleeping but he makes these little sounds when wandering around and even whilst on the flying saucer, my bedding is fitch bedding which is dust extracted so I didn't think it would be that, I am not sure if they are sneezes he doesn't seem to move when he makes the sounds they sound like little snorts, is he just excited or nervous or is this a sign of sickness. He is housed alone, he is all white with a small dot on his head and is predicted to be around 6 months old.I haven't had much chance to observe him as he is new but he is still making the sounds currently, I would describe them as clicks or snorts or sometimes squeaks, I can see no other symptoms his eyes are wide and nose is not dripping and he seems active

I can't tell you more than that clicking is usually associated with infections in the lungs, I would get a vet's opinion.

They can make those kind of sounds when either nervous or excited & your new little one could well be both of those so soon after coming home with you.
If he's active has no other symptoms & is eating & drinking normally it may well be nothing to be concerned over but do keep a very close eye on him for any symptoms like obvious sneezing, breathing problems or signs that he's not well, if you see any changes then I would take him to a vet for a check,

Hi JellyBeans. I agree if he`s very active, bright eyed and running around without looking ill, the noises could be due to his breathing or him making the noises himself. Keep things calm around him and only spot clean his cage. Since your using Fitch this shouldn`t pose a problem. It`s one of the safe substrates.

Observe him when he`s sat still eating or grooming. If the noises stop, or you feel they are associated with his breathing pattern, then he may be reacting to allergens in the air or sometimes small animals can make these sounds without actually being affected overall. But the fact that you have noticed the noises is good and you can monitor how he is over the next few days. If a vet took the time to listen to his chest and observe that he may have a respiratory issue of some sort, then a course of Baytril could be given in his drinking water. But quite honestly, I wouldn`t go down that road unless I saw signs that he wasn`t right or seemed out of sorts. x

Thank you all for your replies, I am a worrier so I automatically think the worst. I am just surprised at how frequent it is whilst he is walking around or resting, I phoned pets at home and they said much the same thing that it could be a settling in issue, I will keep an eye out and take him in if it continues till the end of the week. Cypher I don't know if they are sneezes he doesn't seem to shake or stop moving when he makes the sounds they are quite clicky and short. He is very friendly already but ill leave him to settle in

He sounds lovely. I would keep things settled around him and see how he is after a few days/week. If he came from Pets At Home he may need to settle more and hopefully the noises will disappear. The Companion Care vets in PAH are supposed to be very good if you ever need to see them. x
