I personally wouldn't use it as I would worry the essential oils will either irritate the skin or possibly be licked off and upset her tummy. If she isn't itchy and seems happy enough then it sounds like a female hormone thing - a bit like a hammypause you might say LOL. Sometimes things containing extra precursers to the female hormones can help like soya products - tofu and bean sprouts and again some extra vits. Increase oily seeds maybe - I add omega mix from Holland & Barratt to the food mix and a few drops of of either cod liver oil or linseed oil could help with skin dryness. Try one at a time as you don't want to overload her with extras and see if any help. She is quite an elderly lady now to be honest so some of the issues with age will be showing up now.
This may help

I know the vets you mean but never been there. I use Donaldsons in Holmfirth because I only see Robert Whyte who is very knowledgeable with hamsters.

Being nearby you'll know the bouncy/pot holed roads of Huddersfield! Initially we picked west mount vets as it was near to make sure it wasn't too bouncy a ride. You can feel every pot hole you go over when in a small car round here. She's already getting the broc & bean sprouts but will slowly add the others in. Oily nuts already in use I'm pleased to say. thanks again

I`m with soufflé on this. Older female, treated for mites with Xeno50 mini (good product by the way ) and that worked, hair loss possibly due to age related hormonal changes/diet lacking certain vitamins like vitamin E and A. It can differ in hamsters but look worse in some than others. I had to use a shampoo on a fancy mouse I had who developed Ringworm and it wasn`t fun. I later found out that athletes foot powder would have done the same job with less stress on my mouse. Vets don`t always think about that. x

Having read the helping replies we continued with the oil that's been used so far since the first visit to the vets (over a month ago now) rather than switching. Last night we happily watched Ham munch the suggested porridge which she ate there and then rather than pouching and was running around the dining room and getting up to the usual things as normal. Left out the usual greens and nuts and they'd gone by the morning. Tofu and further greens next time we go to the supermarket! Although have looked all over the web for an answer I haven't been able to find out approximately how long it would take to see the hair growing back. Any idea?

Erin just had this occur with her 2years + Male Mickey who had even more noticeable thinning of the fur due to him being Long haired as well as Satin. Hopefully she will see this thread when she comes on and give more details on Mickey's situation. He is now back to his glorious lush coat.
It took him about 3 weeks to regrow his coat.

Thanks. Very pleased for Mickey Ham is long haired too although being female I dare say the coat's a bit shorter! With the coat we keep thinking we can see first signs of it growing back in parts but I don't know if it's just us being optomistic. Seeing her everyday it's difficult to see little changes. Would be interesting to see what Erin had to say about it all.

The fur growth depends on the stage of moult regrowth the hamster is at. It can take a few weeks for growth to start then up to a couple of months for the full coat to come in. If she is having hormonal issues then it may not regrow fully but as long as she is comfy and active then that is fine.
Yes I know the roads of Huddersfield very well and the neverending digging associated with the gas pipes
In fact the road past my vets has been closed for weeks for roadworks but luckily you still have access!
