Hamster skin condition? HELP!
I picked up my hamster today and whilst looking at his coat found some markings on his skin, one of them seems to resemble a scab but I'm not sure. The other is black but I'm not sure what that is either. I'm really worried and not sure what it is! I'm planning on taking him to see a vet tomorrow but I'd just like to make sure he's okay. I attached some images, as best as I could get as he was being so wriggly. He seems fine in every other aspect, he's active as usual. He does seem to scratch them.
Please help!
Thank you

Re: Hamster skin condition? HELP!
Are you sure they're not his scent glands? Do they ever look wet at all? What area of his body are they on? Are there two of them, one on each side of his body?

Re: Hamster skin condition? HELP!
I'm guessing that your hamster is a Syrian. If there are two (one on each side) near his hips, they are just scent glands. If it is a dwarf and it is on his belly, it also means it is just his scent glands. I think some more info and full body pics would help us out.

Re: Hamster skin condition? HELP!
He is a syrian and I have realised now that the two marks either side are his scent glands. However there is a third mark that looks like a scab or something. He has also been very timid. Last night he was very lathargic and barely moved, he usually runs around and goes on his wheel. I'm taking him to get looked at later today just in case.

Re: Hamster skin condition? HELP!
Is he itching at all? The 1st and Last pics are his scent glands as you already figured out the middle pictures are a healing scab which looks to be on his back and to me looks like a cut formed from hammy scratching to much and cutting the skin which is often caused from Mites. However it could also have been caused by a sharp bit on his wheel or toys etc.
It does look to be healing well in the 2nd photo with no redness around it so for me I would just keep and eye on it to be sure it continues healing, and if it changes at all or he gains more cuts would book him in for a Vet visit to rule out mites for causing the sore.
