Default Hamster keeps sniffing.

My hammy for the past week or so has been sniffing a lot... Any idea what would cause this? Its pretty consistent when he is awake. He seems to sleep okay and have no issues when he sleeps. He is elderly (2.5) but apart from the sniffing seems okay. No discharge from nose or eyes. I did wonder if it was a sudden allergy? But I am unsure as he has used the same bedding for years (care fresh and Pets at home animal safe bedding). Another thing I wondered was could his teeth cause this?? He has over grown teeth to the point half broke off (vet said it was too risky to put him under to trim them because of age). I actually had him at the vets around April because he was running around crazy with his mouth open as if he was unable to breath:\ the vet said she thought he was chocking and put him under to check but nothing was there, and then he was fine after for a week but it started again then stopped a week and re started and since I have not seen him do this so I wondered if his teeth cause this also? He does eat okay and his weight is fine.

Hello Joanne and welcome to Hamster Central. At 2 and a half, your little old man is a great age. Is your vet an exotics vet? If not you can ask to be referred to one. Which teeth does he have now? Teeth can overgrow to the point they cut their cheeks or the roof of the mouth. So they need monitoring. I hope he is okay.
