Exclamation Hamster bleeding?

my poor little hammy was squeaking in her bed so i went to get her out when holding her i noticed little bits of blood on my hand quickly checking her out i noticed around her genital region there was blood! she has been squeaking on and off the past few months but not thought nothing much of it as shes been acting normal running around etc. now seeing the blood i now think its when she has a wee she squeaks seeing as there blood there it could be sore. do you think its serious that i need to get her to a vet asap or keep and eye on it as its the first time ive seen blood

Others here are much more experienced but I think blood means a vet visit Asap. If it an infection of one sort or another she will need medication. Only a vet can advise you after seeing her.

Hi AlisonLouise, I would get her to a vet as soon as you can, especially if she's squeaking and noticeably showing pain. Blood from the genital/ anal region could be caused by a urinary tract infection or possibly something more serious. She may need antibiotics but only a thorough check over by a vet can confirm that.

Aside from the blood on her that you saw would you be able check for any other traces of blood in her bedding/ toilet area etc without upsetting her? What type of hamster is she btw? The squeaking could possibly be unrelated to the blood, she might just be a talkative hamster... But does it sound like an upset/ agitated squeak? I would keep an eye on her and see if you can notice any pattern around when she does squeak, like you said: see if you can check if she's squeaking when she wees...

Maybe try and give her a check over yourself. While you're holding/ playing with her tonight check her for small cuts that could of possibly caused the blood, gently stroke your hands over her to check for lumps and bumps (in this case I would especially check her belly and sides). And if she is active and happy then let her do her thing like normal tonight, maybe give her her favourite treat and again keep an eye on her until you can get a vets appointment.

Keep us updated on how she's doing, it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much, you're doing the best for her

I checked her bedding no sign of any blood, she only squeaks when's she is in her bed so only heard her do it throughout the day but not everyday so I first thought she was having nightmares until I noticed the blood which made me panic she is a Russian dwarf hamster and when she was squeaking before I noticed the blood because she acting normal like is she out I did just think she is noisier than the other 2 I've got

I've just checked her now before leaving for work and I did check her and couldn't see any blood but it's so hard checking her as she is so fast she's not one for sitting still

Seeing blood anywhere is never good, I agree that it really would be best for her if you can get a vet to have a look at her, a vet will find it a lot easier to check her over & see what the problem might be.
Even if she appears to be acting normal there must be a problem somewhere so it's best not to wait but get a vets appointment as soon as you can, it will put your mind at rest as well as helping her out.
Hope it goes well & she's going to be ok.
