Re: Waking up with wet mouth
Well, I'm back and she didn't even hoard this morning's stuff, it's still in the bowl. She seems to just be getting weaker and I don't think she's drunk anything today. Vets again tomorrow I think. She's now squeaking when she's out of the nest, which she wasn't doing previously, and she's a lot more sluggish in general. I'm pretty sure she's too weak to climb. She's still inquisitive but her eyes are less bright... It's like watching a human with bad flu, if that makes sense.
I'm scared witless, I really don't want to lose her but she's never ever been this lacklustre. Going out to get baby food now, but I might make up a batch of those another time racinghamster because they sound great!

Gimley, the bottle doesn't leak when you fill it all the way up, only when it's not filled properly to begin with. Dunno why, I think it's something to do with vacuums and stuff.

Re: Waking up with wet mouth
She's back in her big cage and is a lot more active and I've heard less squeaking, but she's not quite right still. Will still visit the vet tomorrow. She occasionally goes very still and her head droops like she's fighting to stay awake. Never seen her do that before. She's also quite uninterested in her wheel. That said, she's still busy-busy and scurrying about, if slightly slower than normal. No luck on the baby food front.

Re: Waking up with wet mouth
It`s always difficult to tell whether they are feeling anything. A sudden loss of interest in a wheel or slight behavioural changes can mean something isn`t right, but you know she has a tooth issue now so that`s possibly the main thing to focus on. Ask these questions:
1. Is she eating her food without dropping any or looking as though she`s struggling with certain actions like shelling a sunflower seed or nibbling anything she used to find easy?
2. apart from burrowing, does she seem uneasy or behaving in any way where you notice anything different?
Keep checking her teeth for any new growth or extra long growth of existing teeth that may need trimming if they cause her problems with eating. Did you manage to find any science selective? x

Re: Waking up with wet mouth
The teeth themselves are fine. Went to the vet earlier and he said she must have ingested some of the antibiotic because there's less redness in her pouch, but she also has the beginnings of wet tail. Got some baby food in the end which she's nibbling at bit by bit. I'm just concerned that I don't have enough antibiotics left for her. It's also ridiculously hot - the coolest room in the house is 25C. I've put a mug in her cage but she really just wants to stay in her nest. Couldn't find any science biscuits in P@H.
As for 1), I haven't seen her drop anything. Re: 2), I've seen her pause in odd places (her ramp, the middle of her cage) and sort of droop like she's trying not to fall asleep. It's not like freezing with fear type stillness, it's more like zoning-out. Only seen her do it a couple of times, although she's most active when I'm asleep so there may be more. I told the vet and he didn't have an answer.
Thanks for keeping up with the thread, it's really helpful x

Re: Waking up with wet mouth
With the heat & humidity we had yesterday I think most people's hams were a bit stressed out & behaving a little differently to normal so that may account for some of her behaviour, that kind of weather is horrible if you're feeling unwell poor girl!
It may take a while for her pouch to settle down, even if she's only nibbling a little at the baby food I'd persevere with that so she's getting at least some of it.
Give it time & see how she goes, she may be a little better as the weather cools down too.

Re: Waking up with wet mouth
It`s been hot here in central Scotland too but I know England has been hotter. My hamster Chubs is coping so well. In his nest and still playing and making a mess as usual! My thermometer currently reads around 24 degrees C. So not vastly hot but bearable.
I have my floor fan running periodically and Chubs is having a small piece of apple and a fresh pea or broccoli from the freezer but I run these under cold water first to take the chill off. x
