it is with great sadness that i announce peach has sadly passed away, it would have been near impossible to take her to the vet in time but she is now pain free.
rest in peace little one x

(I did notice she had blood around her bottom area does anyone know what this could be or the reason why she passed away?)

I had a feeling this was the likely result Hamsters4eva from your description of how she was. The blood, was the blood above her tail/in the fur? Or coming from her anal opening or vaginal opening? If it was, she may have had some kind of womb infection or something else going on and no vet would have helped that. If on the other hand her cage mate was attacking her (blood above the tail) this could have resulted in her death. But I honestly can`t say which.

Really sorry for your loss. Make sure her little friend is happy and not too stressed by losing her cage mate. They usually do well but give her some extra attention if you can. x

I'm so sorry

Since you noticed blood she probably had cystitis. Like racing hamster said, it's a bladder infection. Usually antibiotics are administered for this, but doesn't always work. This can spread and attack the lungs if not caught early. Which explains the panting. Since you only just recently noticed this, a trip to the vet wouldn't have probably saved her as blood is a sign of severe infection. Plus the antibiotics work over a course of 7 days. If you saw puss, that meant it was too late to do anything about it.

This girl had the same thing happen to her hamster: http://hamsterdiariesblog.com/2014/0...-a-bloody-bum/

thank you racinghamster and nickoh, honestly i didn't really check too much when I saw the blood but from what I saw both hamsters got along fine so it most likely would have been a womb infection, and from nickoh's description it would have explained the panting.im disappointed that I didn't notice the signs earlier and got her to a vet which would have given her a chance, but it all happened so fast one minute she was perfectly fine the next she was lying in the middle of her cage.

my other hamster, cherry, seems to be fine and ive checked her over and theres no injuries on her so I can only assume that it was a bladder infection.

despite me wishing that I could have helped her in some way I am glad that she is pain free now as I wouldn't want her suffering.

Again thanks for all the help you have given me youve helped a ton. x
