Default Update on Panda, not doing so well!

Hi all, I've been so busy and have been meaning to update everyone on Pandas condition for weeks now. I'm afraid that the vet was right, he certainly has Cushings disease. Mentally he is fine but physically he's deteriorating fast. He has almost no fur left on his body.....He almost looks like a hairless rat. He has developed big wounds and cuts on his body.....I've been using sudocrem but it's not healing them so I'm not sure what I should do to try and heal them. He hasn't shown any signs of being in any pain. His eyes are clear and bright and nose free of discharge. He still eats well, drinks regularly and still loves his wheel. But physically I'm not sure how much longer he can go on like this. It's been extremely heart breaking to watch him deteriorate in front of my eyes knowing there's nothing I can do to help. He's such a little fighter and still sweet as always. In my eyes he's still so adorable even almost completely hairless with wounds on him. He is being spoiled rotten with baby food, milk and honey yogurt drops, strawberry yogurt drops, chicken, egg whites and carrot nibblets. I just want him to be as happy and comfortable as possible.

Oh poor little guy. I hope he's not in pain. I know you'll do what's best for him. Give him a yogurt drop from me.

Hi Panda`s_mommy. I was watching a TV show last night and a dog with Cushing`s was very ill and rushed into the vet. They explained that Cushing`s is an over production of cortisone hormone and the dog`s medication had been stopped prematurely by the owner, who didn`t realise the dog was to be kept on it. So they had to give the dog fluids and other treatment to put him right again. The dog was also quite sore and the vet explained that their bodies become quite sensitive. The dog had all it`s body hair though, which was strange if hair loss is supposed to be a symptom?

Panda may be hairless, but if he`s still doing normal things without being in any physical pain, I would carry on as you are and perhaps ask your vet for advice over the phone if your concerned about any new symptoms. Was he given any medication by your vet to take daily to help his symptoms? Or did the vet not thing it was worth giving? because being a small animal the drugs may be too strong?

Aw the poor little guy
As long as he is pain free and has quality of life, that's the main thing, enjoy spending time with him, he's obviously very much loved xx

He really is a little fighter & it does sound as though he's doing remarkably well all things considered but then you have given him all the love & care he could wish for, I hope he can remain comfortable for some time yet.
I know how hard this has been on both of you & I really feel for you.

Panda's mommy, I'm so sorry to hear this, it's heartbreaking watching them slowly deteriorate.
I know deep down how much you love him and spoiling him with lots of special foods/treats.
He's a little fighter and is determined to carry on.
Sending big hugs to you and to Panda xxx
