?scab on hamster
Today when I got biscuit out for cuddles and playtime I noticed I could feel a tiny lump when stroking her just around what would be the shoulder I think? Luckily she is so tame she sat relatively still in my hand while I tried to separate her fur a bit to look and found what looks like a tiny little scab on her skin. Could she have just broken the skin a little while scratching and cleaning herself or should I worry?
I'm assuming it's nothing to worry about but thought I would post on here just in case as I'm still quite new to owning a hamster. She seems perfectly fine in herself and isn't bothered by it.

She probably did. Keep a close eye on her and if it gets any worse call or seek a vet

Re: ?scab on hamster
It might be worth checking the entrances to her houses/hideys or anything she crawls under to make sure there are no jagged edges she may have caught herself on. Sometimes you get the odd sharp bit on plastic & wood that may have been fine has a habit of getting chewed & getting splintery!

I too would check for any jagged edges.
Check that she doesn't scratch it causing it to bleed, or if it gets bigger.

Re: ?scab on hamster
So we took biscuit to the vet today because we were concerned that what we could feel on her back was getting bigger. I was so impressed and proud of how biscuit behaved at the vet she didn't bite at all she was so well behaved! Proud hamster mummy!!
Anyway, the vet didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about but has given us some spot on treatment for mites in case that's what has caused her to scratch herself and make herself bleed. The scab looks like it's healing and is starting to peel away now and the skin looks normal underneath. We've done her treatment today and we have to do it again in 2 weeks time and the last one will be after another 2 weeks.

Re: ?scab on hamster
Miss. Madison only recently had the same thing and I too took her to the vet to make sure. I did find the offending spikey (a sharp loose bit of plastic at the back of her wheel) which was promptly replaced. Poor little one, I hope she heals up quickly x
