Symptoms of Pyo please?
Hey,
Can anyone tell me the signs and symptoms of Pyometra please?
Sounds silly as I lost my Scrub to pyo but I can only really remember the smell and the discharge.
I'm worried that Pumpkin may have the start of it. Her genitals smell (not strong and the smell isn't really unpleasant like it was with Scrub) and she is drinking more. She isn't giving out any discharge, she isn't lethargic or anything. She did squeak for a few days a couple weeks ago which is a little out of character but that has stopped now.
If someone could let me know the signs of Pyo or what this could potentially be.
Im asking as my vets is closed for 2 weeks due to them having a refit and I won't take her anywhere else (unless its an absolute emergency) because my vet there is amazing, especially with hamsters and knows me well.
Thanks guys!

A bloody discharge and after a couple of months a swollen belly that can grow larger.

Re: Symptoms of Pyo please?
Irritable, Nesting more, swollen belly, If it is a closed Pyo a Vet visit is of utt most urgency as that is when the pus and infection remains within the womb. Hamsters with closed Pyo often have little odor unlike and open Pyo where the pus comes out and stinks. My only cases lacked a normal appetite and became very picky on what foods they would eat too.
Is this odor you do smell occur every day or only every four days? Hamsters which are or carry the Cinnamon gene seem to have a fair stronger odor during their heat cycles. If the smell is only every 4 days I'd bet it is just her scent while in heat.

Her belly isn't swollen, she isn't irritable or nesting more. As soon as the vets open I'll be taking her.

Re: Symptoms of Pyo please?
Her smell is on and off. Some days she'll smell and some days she won't. It's not as much a 4 days but sometimes she'll smell for 3 days and then wont smell for another 3 days. It's odd.

Re: Symptoms of Pyo please?
Maybe she has smelly days because of being in heat. Mine can have them for 2 or 3 days sometimes!
