Bloody Urine
I was holding Honey just 5 minutes ago and she peed out blood. She's been completely fine as far as i can tell, she's just been sleeping a bit more. She hasn't been drinking more or anything. The vet is closed today and I was wondering what could be wrong with her

Re: Bloody Urine
Possibly a urinary tract infection? Chances are you've caught it early and it doesn't sound like it's an emergency yet but the sooner you can get her in to the vet the better.

Re: Bloody Urine
Is there anything i can do for now?
She has been a bit more wary of me for about 2 days now. I fed her a piece of tomato last night for the first time. Does this have anything to do with it?

Re: Bloody Urine
A little bit of tomato shouldn't have hurt her. Do you have any unsweetened cranberry juice on hand or cranberry tablets? They're supposed to be good for treating UTI's. If that is what she has. I would still get her to a vet.

Re: Bloody Urine
No I don't :/.
Am I still able to schedule an appointment/call in if the clinic is closed?
I have school tomorrow and the only time i can get a ride anywhere is if my sister is off work which so conviently happens to be when i'm at school so I'm thinking of just skipping first period tomorrow/tuesday to take her. My parents would think I'm stupid for taking ANY animal to a vet because they think "animals are just animals, so what?" So I can't go ask them for a ride. lol all that unnecessary information is just me venting sorry
How much are vet trips usually? I'm positive I have enough money saved up but I just want to know how much to expect

Re: Bloody Urine
I don't really know what to say since I'm in Canada. I have heard that vets are considerably cheaper in the US than in Canada but my visits, including treatment and medication, generally run me less than $100.
To answer your other question, depends on the vet. You'll probably have to wait until the clinic opens to make an appointment since any answering service your vet might have will probably only be there to field emergency calls and take messages. You'll have to wait for the receptionist to get there.
As for not taking her to the vet, there are laws that make it a criminal offence to deny medical care to an animal in need. If you need help with the bill the vet may take payments or there might be organizations that can help you pay for it.

Re: Bloody Urine
See if you can save any of that pee by putting her in a clean container so her pee doesn't get soaked up. Preferably right before you go to the vet so you have a fresh sample!
That way you'll be able to tell if there's still blood in it too

Re: Bloody Urine
I'm positive it's blood, it's bright red and doesn't resemble pee at all. It almost looks like she's JUST peeing out blood.

Re: Bloody Urine
Oh dear Is there another vet that might be open on Sundays near you? Even one that doesn't normally see hamsters might be able to help.
