I just spent $150 just to find out that they didn't have the appropriate baytril for hamsters at hand. Sweet.
They gave me the x-ray and suggested another clinic. Do you guys think the other clinic will charge for a check up fee if the only thing i need now is the baytril?
I went out to get cranberries for her and she's more active now and i haven't noticed anymore blood. Is it possible that she recovered on her own?

I don't know if the rules are different in the US but can't they just write you a prescription that you can have filled at any compounding pharmacy or call another clinic to mix up the appropriate medicine?

I mean, you've met the conditions of Texas law and your pet has been seen, surely she doesn't need a second visit to get her medication. I would call the first vet back and ask.

Oh, and what was the diagnosis?

I'd have thought the vet would give you a prescription, it doesn't seem right that they charged you $150and not complete the treatment. What did the x-ray say?
Keep giving her cranberries - if you can get the sugarfree juice as well, it'll help flush the infection out.
Call back the vet and ask about the medication and that surely that is included in the amount you've paid already.

She said it was cystitis which i take is another word for urinary tract infection?

My sister said she would call in tomorrow morning when the second clinic is open to ask if we can just collect the baytril but if not, we will be calling the first vet to try to get a prescription.

She's running on her wheel right now, acting like her normal self, and hasn't peed been since an hour ago when we brought her home. Or if she has, I can't see any blood in the sand.

btw thank you sosososo much for helping me!!!
i'm gonna try my best to not murder anyone at school tomorrow.

yeah... I'm not sure. The x-ray was to make sure that she didn't have any kidney stones which was 60 bucks... and completely useless. Well the cost was: 45 initial check up fee, 40 emergency clinic (since it's a sunday), and 60 for the x-ray :/.\

edit:
On second thought, she did give me a paper with her recommendation for baytril/the other big word that's also an antibiotic and the name of the second clinic. But when we asked her if they would charge us extra for check-up fee she said she couldn't speak for them.

Another question, sorry for so many posts.
Is it possible that she can cure herself naturally without antibiotics? She seems like she's back to her normal self now.

I wouldn't count on it. The problem with that condition is that it's caused by a bacteria that can spread to the kidneys if allowed to grow unchecked. Best to deal with it and kill the bacteria before they get any ideas

Is the paper they gave you a prescription? Because if it is then you should be able to take it to a pharmacy to be filled rather than another vet clinic. Unless your rules are different and you need to get it from a vet though I don't see why a second vet would feel the need to check her over if the first one just sent you for the medication.

Let us know how your sister gets on with straightening things out!

Im guessing the paper is a prescription but the lady couldn't say if I'd have to pay a initial fee. Im hoping i wont have to. I'm just thinking about how the $150 could've been spent on a huge cage i've been wanting for a long time now for honey instead of a vet visit that didn't help at all. But if it turns out that i can just pay for the baytril alone and not take out another 150, the regret of going to that vet would probably go away lol

No, I would get the antibiotics, Honey was peeing blood and that's a serious infection.
She might be appearing fine just now, but that kind of infection can linger and if not treated could get worse than it was originally.
Also keep the cranberries coming to Honey and if you can get sugar free cranberry juice then even better.
