Anyone ever have this occur with their Hamster?
I got a phone call tonight from the gal who bought the Black Tort Band pup from Shiloh and Iris. She said Nala had just past away bleeding profusely from her wee spot. She was not angry at me but did say her Vet had no idea and that it was probably "IN" her breeding. So she asked me to check out the other females in that litter for bleeding.
I have Gloria the Dove Tort Band girl and she is fine. Erin has Honey the only other female from that litter and Hekomi's Pekoe, and Erin's Lily is by pedigree the exact same bloodlines since her Sire is the same and her Dam Glory is a full sister to Iris.
This gal is a hobby breeder and takes good care of her Hamsters but also brings in unwanted Hamsters from ads on Craigslist, and though they are kept in separate rooms are not in two different buildings and all are on the same floor.
Her vet is NOT a small animal vet specialist but does see her Hamsters when ill, and often prescribes meds for dogs not cats to her hamsters. Also had her use fish meds on a litter with wet tail symptoms which did work so I can't say she gave her something not good for her.
I have offered her a replacement pup when I start breeding again if she wants one, and she is OK with that. I just find it hard to believe this was genetic when every other female related in full or by relations is fine including the Dam of the pup in question though Iris has been retired from any other litters due to her age and will soon be going to her retirement home with Erin.
Any ideas?

could it not of been pyometra ? or some sort of cancer internal injury or prolapse all of these would cause bleeding

Re: Anyone ever have this occur with their Hamster?
I thought of Pyo but she said the bleeding was profuse and bright red. However this is a almost 4 month old female never bred and that bad a pyo usually doesn't occur at that young and age female. Cancer is of course completely possible and can hit at any age.
I did talk with her this morning and she is getting out of Hamsters so doesn't want a replacement hamster. I also learned the Vet did NOT see her at all and she is just guessing at what happened. She was in the hospital for surgery before Nala got ill so is unsure when the bleeding started. When she got back home she found her with the severe bleeding , and she past away a few hours later.
With this new info I am thinking Bladder infection gone untended which killed her from poisoning of the Toxins in her body from the infection. Which is not inherited nor genetic to my knowledge.

Re: Anyone ever have this occur with their Hamster?
Bright red... Nancy I think you hit that on the head with a bladder infection or very bad UTI.
I haven't noticed anything going on from Pekoe at all - she's happy as a clam. However, I handle them daily and would notice anything.
If a vet hadn't seen her, I'm not sure that's something I'd put down to breeding. If it was something respiratory, or circulatory, maybe... I'm really not sure. Some humans can be more prone to UTIs but I also am not sure if that is genetic.
Good to know, and good to watch out for. Pekoe is over 4mo old now and I plan to breed her soon, but I will keep an eye on her. However, I don't think you have much to worry about in your line. Was this the breeder who had the puzzling roan type girl you bought?

Sad news about Shiloh and Iris's pup Napa.
Glad Nala's owner told you the truth, it puts your mind at ease.

Either the owner or the vet sounds like an idiot, if any animal has sudden internal bleeding "genetics" is not what it "probably" is. That sounds ludicrous.
