How do you use the dust bath?
Hey! I have a dwarf hamster and want to start giving him dust baths. I've been looking in other people's cages and it seems like they leave theirs in 24/7, but on my dust instructions it says to only leave it in for about 10 minutes. What do you guys do?

Personally I leave mine in all the time and Dolly just goes in it as and when she wants.
Also be careful not to buy "dust", as it can cause respiratory problems, go for "sand" products instead

Re: How do you use the dust bath?
I leave min in, my hamster uses the sand as a toilet as well as using it to bathe, with daily cleaning the sand stays clean and so does the cage, p@h chinchilla dust is sand they just use the word dust, also children's play sand is good to use, for your self and uk members

My Syrian does, he only uses it as a toilet. as far as I'm aware a Syrian will rarely (if ever) actually use the sand to clean themselves. But it keeps the cage clean and the smell contained in one area.

They can, and it's nice to put one in for them- they do bathe differently than dwarves though. Dwarves will roll around like crazy, but Syrians dig and scoot.

I leave my dust baths in all the time, your ham may well use it as a toilet too which is fine but you can try using two & they'll sometimes use one as a bath & one for pee!

I leave my sand baths in all the time, note 'sand' not 'dust'

Not so, I have two Syrians and both bath in their sand. Neither of them ever use their baths as a toilet They have separate litter trays with potty litter in them and they pee in those
