Is Ted fat or just big
Ted weighs 225 grams which people on here say is big. But i dont overfeed him. So i measured how long he is and hes 20cm long. Is this big for a syrian?

Re: Is Ted fat or just big
My winter white hybrid is a tiny bit over weight. I say it is excessive hair that makes her look plump (or fat as my wife says).
They say 200g for a syrian, but 225 is not too much.
Here is a page on it

Re: Is Ted fat or just big
Syrians can weigh anywhere from 100 grams all the way up to 300 grams, depending on their genetics.
If you feed Ted a good diet and a healthy amount, then his weight should be fine. 225 is toward the higher end of the scale, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's unhealthy.

Re: Is Ted fat or just big
I have read that petshop pets are smaller than breeder pets. Some hamsters are bred for their size and colourings. Where was your ham fom ?

Re: Is Ted fat or just big
P@H would not know the age if it tattooed across the body of the hams. They know nothing about pets. One P@H worker told me they get them in at 4 weeks old and they are in quarrantine for 48 hours. I have seen different sizes in the same cells in our local P@H. Cant call them cages. lol. Butr, when you ask how old they are when you buy them, they say "We got them when they were 6 weeks and they have not been here long, possibly about a week". Yet, someone who you can rely on says different.

Re: Is Ted fat or just big
Haha, Ian, that reminds me of when I got Margo. She was an adoption from the pet store, and when I asked how old they were, the employee said, "uh, I dunno. About 3 weeks?" Even though there was a fact sheet with the pup's exact date of birth taped to the glass. Genius, I tell you. Same employee also insisted a Crittertrail was plenty big for a syrian, to much eye-rolling from me. XD
