Hamster healing times ?
My Robo has cut the end of his nose. I Went to clean his cage and he looked good as normal. I removed all of the things in his cage and just had the wooden division I made as his dig box. I knew he would be darting about his cage and I am unsure if he ran into one of the openings of the dig box. He has been chewing on the openings. I picked him up, not noticing his note and put him in a plastic tub where he cant jump out of as it is too small and placed a food bowl in it with him. While he was running around in the tub and over his food bowl (no sharp edges, I had a feel), this is when I noticed his nose tip. There was one small bit of shiney blood but not bleeding or dripping. No blood in the cage. I went through his nest, looked over the wooden dig box and everything but no blood about.
My question is, how long does it take for a small nick to heal. He is none the wiser really and is carrying on as if nothing has happened. He looks like he has been bitten, but unless he can bite his own nose, I recon he has ran into the partition as I was removing it from his cage so I could lift him out.

Re: Hamster healing times ?
They tend to heal pretty quickly, I'd guess in a couple of days for something that small

Thanks. That has eased my mind some. I will check him in a day or two to see how he is doing. He looks like Rudolf at the mo. Anyone got any tiny antlers. lol.

Ian, I'm sure it will heal quickly. Have you seen the pictures of Bec's ham, Neptune? He's recovery time after surgery was very quick, stitches and all.

Re: Hamster healing times ?
Hamsters are shockingly fast healers! Even something like a broken limb will only keep them down for a week or two in most cases a little cut shouldn't take more than a couple days.

I have not seen them yet, but I will look for them. I managed to get some pics of his nose. He does not like to be handled at all. He does not bite, or make a noise, but is very fidgety when I hold him. lol.
As you can see, it is a very small nick on the tip of his nose. Poor little mite.
He is happily running on his flying saucer and his wheel. He walks across the roof of his cage as if he is walking on the floor. On all fours. lol

Re: Hamster healing times ?
I think you are right..it looks like he may have run into something or fallen off something and whacked his nose. I had a gerbil break her leg and it healed really fast. And you have to check out Bec's Neptune. It was a huge surgery and he was amazing. Besides, just for his beauty alone, his thread is wonderful .

Re: Hamster healing times ?
Hi DrK. Thanks for the link. I had a look and he did heal quickly.
I looked at my Robo last night when he came out and it does not look as bad as when I first noticed it. It is still noticeable but not as red.
Thanks 2littlepuds. I hope he will. He is still as lively as he always has been. I dont think it is bothering him. I have not put too much substrate in his cage so he cant burrow. Hopefully, he does not get any substrate in his wound. None up to now. I have yet to see him today, but he might not come out until tonight.
