Default Dry white patches of skin

Hi! I have a female Syrian hamster around 16-17 months old. She previously had a wound on her back, caused from the spindle of her wheel, which is almost healed now. But, I looked at her skin this morning and discovered that there were dry patches on her skin, around her lower back area. Her skin is not red or anything, other than the dry spots. Is it just dry skin? Do I have to worry about anything?

Is the dryness just around where the wound was, or in other places too? Does she a seem to be scratching or grooming it excessively?

Her wound was on the the upper part of her back and the dry areas are on the lower part of her back, so the dryness is not really around her wound. She doesn't seem to be scratching or grooming that area excessively. Could the dryness be due to old age?

Yes it could be because of old age, as 17 months is a good ol' age for a hamster. If it doesn't seem to be bothering her then I'd advise just monitoring it carefully for signs of redness or irritation.

You can get some tea tree oil or aloe Vera caplets from your local drugstore to help get a little moisture back in the skin: pierce the caplets with a needle and squeeze a little out, then rub it on the dry patch. These two substances are safe if you hamster licks them off, so no worries there

Also, you may want to keep a close eye for symptoms of cushings. Here's a thread with pictures so you can know what to look out for.

Stages of Cushings Disease with illustrated pics (inc. treatment)

I don't think what you're describing sounds like cushings, but it never hurts to be cautious and get the info out there
