Wink Sticky eye

Columbine Bean woke up today with one eye seemingly half sealed closed- this has happened once before, but went away as she started waking up a bit more and blinking. Today it did not go away, so I did some research and it turns out it's totally harmless, and all you have to do is take a soft, wet cloth (water or saline solution) and wipe it gently.

C.B. is still a baby, and as well mannered as she is, I expected that our first healthcare issue was going to be met with some struggling and probably bloody fingers. Scary!

There was quite a bit of wiggling, and a few escape attempts across my shirt, but once I got the courage to hold her firmly enough that she couldn't get away, I managed to wipe the stickyness away. No biting occurred at all! I'm so proud, and now she's happily eating bits of apple.

So lesson learned for new ham-moms, don't be afraid, you're doing what's best for your ham- and they will forgive you after a treat.

Good for you! It's amazing how brave you can be when you are worried about a new hammy, right? If this should happen again you can wrap her in a dishcloth, with just her head sticking out, so she can't struggle so much. It makes the process go faster so she doesn't have to stress as much. And, yes, treats have magical properties, they bring forgetfulness. . At least it does for the hammy!
