Sorry to hear the result wasn`t more positive Bec but removing the gland is better than leaving it as the prognosis may be that it will prolong his life. It may even eradicate the problem, although cancers in general feed on blood, which is why (in human patients) it can easily spread to other parts of the body. This is why human patients can have chemotherapy treatment which is a solution that poisons the system in order to kill the cancer cells. Hamsters are far too small to have any such treatments and even in cats and dogs, it can be an endurance. So surgery is the best option.

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow and HC will be looking for an update later in the day! x

Awh Bec, I'm so sorry. I'm glad you caught it. I hope all goes well for little Neptune tomorrow. x He's such a beautiful boy.

I don't believe this! I am so sorry Bec. Hopefully, since you check him frequently, you have caught this in time to prevent spreading. Neptune has all of us rooting for him. Surgery is really the only smart option for him. He's too young to just leave it. I truly believed it would turn out to be an infected gland; not this.

I asked that same question but the sample they took this morning detected it. They seemed positive the procedure should go well but obviously couldn't guarantee it not returning.

Staying positive for him.

Me too...absolutely gutted for him. Given his age, surgery is the best option for him.

Beginning to doubt my hamster mummy skills, but know that's silly! Just seems unfair.

Will be contacting the breeder out of courteousy so she's aware.

This has nothing...NOTHING!...to do with your mummy skills. You and your SO are wonderful and loving hammy parents. Neptune is a big healthy breeder hammy. This is something no one has control over. I know you are thinking of Apollo, but it really is just happenstance. It is truly unfair.

I have only just seen this thread - am sorry to hear that it was more serious than you had hoped for. At his young age, I agree that surgery is the best option. He is young, fit and healthy so hopefully he will breeze through it - I'll be thinking of him tomorrow.
