That is good news that things seem to be settling down. I'd check that the dosage is correct tomorrow. Hopefully he will heal up well. Keep a watch on the abscess as they have a habit of filling up again and also give the yogurt for a few weeks daily to build up his gut bacteria after the meds end. Well done for keeping trying with him.

Glad to hear he seems to be improving. I think I know which vet center in Hamra, but even their practice and supplies is 98 percent dog and cat...tho the vet seems quite nice and professional.

Dunno how tame he is, but Ziggy and I kind of enjoy yogurt, he just licks it off my finger, and usually polishes off large blobs at one time

Skeever, he's very tame and he just had some yogurt and seemed to love it. Even the vet I took him to on Friday was mainly for dogs and cats which was why I was questioning the dose from the beginning. I have a number for a vet in Hazmieh but she's away until next week. The receptionist says that she treats rodents but I have no idea if its her specialty.

I just woke him to put more betadine and the abscess looks about 1000 percent better. I'm going to take him tomorrow anyway to check the dose again and to see if it needs to be cleaned. He's very attached to me and will sleep in my hand and comes to my voice. I'm so relieved that he's improving - we were all really worried for a few days. It helped to have somewhere to ask questions.

One of the problems here for rodent owners is the fact that most people think exotic pets mean monkeys and they are easy enough to find, in grimy cages on the sidewalk next to a cage of half dead looking parrots Rodents are soooo not IN here...like you said, dirty, smelly ......sigh

I really want to get a rat or two, and that's why I ended up finding anyone at all who sold rodents that weren't in a plastic baggie on the side of the highway? The supermarket in Raouche , International Shoppers I think it's called, has a second floor pet zone for a lot of pet items.....not great, but......

Pet wise, it's the wild west out here, lol. If you find any rats needing rescue? PM Me!!!!!
I spent a week looking for play sand or the equivalent, closer to home. No luck. The Raouche place has the lizard sand, some CritterTrails, hammy outhouses but.....better than nothing. And no dehydrated monkeys !

Enjoy the yogurt....Ziggy is overdue for a laban-fest just on general principle this week. Cuz it's fun and healthy within reason

Keep us posted

Just an update on Apollo as we are back from the vet. Skeever, I took him to Mamalia in Hazmieh and they were unbelievably nice. I took him twice and they wouldn't charge me. I finally bought a few cat toys even though I don't have a cat. My daughter is going to gift them to her friend.

He's doing great and the Dr was happy with the wound's progress. It's almost closed and no signs of pus so he's off the antibiotic. The eye is still a little sticky and he really looks a mess with the betadine and some hair loss but hopefully that will all clear up in the next week.

Thanks for all the encouragement and the info on pet supplies.

I'm really devastated because Apollo, after improving for about 8 days has taken a severe turn for the worse. We were back at the vet today because the diarrhea has come back and it's very bad this time. Both eyes are sealed shut and he's completely listless.

I am finger feeding him food mashed with water and trying to get drops of water down every hour. The vet says he needs a medicine that he will have at 10 am tomorrow. The way he's sitting in my hand and just not moving very much is very scary. He's lost so much weight and fur and it's only been 24 hours since the diarrhea came back. He had not completely recovered his weight and fur from the bout with the lump and infection.

I don't know what's happening with him, his cage is always clean and I don't use fluffy bedding. In fact, right now I'm just using toliet paper because it's easy to remove and change as he soils it. I'm just hoping he can hold on and that the medicine will help. I hate that he is suffering.
