Default Hamster itching a lot ): help?

Hey everyone (:

Haven't been online in a while! Been so busy decorating and studying I haven't had time to come online, don't worry tho I always make time for my little babies! Gizmo is still as confident as ever, Gimli is becoming so tame and walks onto my hand a lot without treats! And our Adoptee Snowy isn't tame yet but is very settled in! Thanks for the help with them from everyone!

Anyway, so afew weeks ago I added a sand bath into Gimli and Snowy's cages, Gizmo already had one. They seemed to get on fine with them but then roughly 4 days ago I noticed Gimli repeatedly itching herself all over her body, rolling around inside her wooden logs too (I'm guessing to itch her back?) I instantly took the bath out as it's the only new thing since I noticed the itching. She seemed abit better after that but again today I've noticed her itching a lot again, and then I noticed her just sitting there doing nothing for about 30 minutes, I got her out and had abit of a play, then she went back to her nest and then was itching again.

I dunno what's wrong ): I'm worried about her I don't want my babies to be uncomfortable or in pain! Anyone got any ideas of what this could be?

Thanks a lot in advance (:

As far as I can see everything looks fine, she doesn't like to sit still so I couldn't have a really good look. But from what I could see she seemed to look normal xx

Hiya. I would keep her away from sand if she`s reacted this way. It may have triggered a reaction while your other hamster is okay with it. Hamsters don`t have the same dense fur that chinchillas have and daily exposure to sand could dry the skin. So if she`s continuing to be irritated, it might be worthwhile having her fur/skin looked at by a vet, although if her environment hasn`t had anything new added that could cause mites or lice, chances are she will settle down and she`s just over grooming.

Rub her fur the wrong way along her back and check for any redness or flaking or missing patches of fur/scabs. If you see anything you feel is not right, then either the sand has caused a temporary reaction. x

The sand has been removed and I'm going to clean out her cage tomorrow as I can't buy new woodshavings today. She does seem better but she still itches quite a lot, it also looked asif she was twitching a little bit when she wasn't itching.

As well as this she didn't run on her wheel at all last night, she loves her wheel and normally runs non stop from around 10pm until 6/7am.

I was up until 3am and she hadn't ran on it once, I checked the position of the wheel before and after I went to sleep and it hadn't moved! I'm really worried ):

I'm gonna have a better check of her skin when I get home after college tonight, and if the problem persists I will definately take her to the vets!
