Help! I think my hamster has wet tail :(
Hi, it's been exactly 2 weeks since I got my little chinese hamster, Mio, home. She was really shy at first, but she has settled in now. She's really active, and she eats and drinks normal. When I took her out of her cage, she decided to pee quite a lot. When I took her out today to put her in her ball, I noticed at least 6 poops in her cage within 10 minutes. some looked normal, and some were weird. Some did not look healthy in colour, and one was really dried up and reddish. She has been showing signs that she could be in heat, but I don't know if she actually is. Please help, I'm really worried. I love my little Mio so much and I would hate anything bad to happen to her.

Re: Help! I think my hamster has wet tail :(
As far as I am aware wet tail is just another name for when they have the runs, so her poos would be soft, wet, mushy things, not dried up. If you are worried I would recommend a vet trip, or if you have a vet see if they can advise over the phone or look at the poo.
Also maybe post a picture on here of the poo, often people don't like to talk about poo but I find that it is often one of the first signs in a poorly animals.
As for the weeing it could have been stress related, I also find when they are stressed mine poo more than usual. So if she isn't overly happy to be handled or there was a strange scent, smell or something else this could be the cause. Just a thought

Re: Help! I think my hamster has wet tail :(
I'll try to describe it.
2 were normal.
3 were brown/green, sticky, and lying in a yin yang formation.
1 was brown/reddish with cracks and stuck to the side of the ball.
Is this normal? I have never known a hamster to poop so much in such a short amount of time.

My Campbell's poops a lot, but those poops sound strange in formation. I know Russian dwarfs don't get wet tail, but I'm not sure about Chinese hams.
By all means, wait for someone else who is better at healthcare and knows Chinese hams, but if you're worried at all, a vet trip won't hurt.
