When my Winter White Nanuk was weighed at the vet he was 58 grams and the vet said he was 'quite pudgy' (his words) but said that it is not a major issue.

I asked him what his ideal weight should be and he did say it varies but mentioned around 45 grams.

I've actually just today bought a small digital scale so will weigh all of my hamsters tonight.

I must commend and agree with what Charlie Dunn said.

So I've just weighed Monty, Nanuk, Norman and Baldrick.

Monty, Campbells Russian dwarf hybrid female, 20 months old weighs 57 grams.

Nanuk, Winter White dwarf hybrid male, 11 months old, weighs 60 grams.

Norman, Russian hybrid male, 6 months old, weighs 47 grams.

Baldrick, Russian dwarf hybrid male, 2 months old weighs 57 grams.

Baldrick has a monstrous apetite and has put on a lot of weight recently. I am limiting his treats for a little while (which are usually nuts such as walnut or pecan nut, dried coconut pieces, mealworms, sunflower and pumpkin seeds). Of all my hamsters he is the only one who is identifyably overweight and even then, not obscenely so at all.

Thank you all for your information. My hybrid however doesn't seem to run on his wheel very much....he does eat and do other hamster stuff, just doesn't like the wheel. He's been like this since i got him 2 months ago.

The wheel is a proper one 20 cm and does work. he can get to it easily i've seen him go in.

Ithuviel, my one hamster Monty has never ever shown an interest in her wheel, exactly like yours. We've had her from five weeks old and she is now 20 months old and she has never run for more than a few paces on her wheel (that I've seen). She also does all the normal hamster things except running!

I think some hamsters are just like that. Same as some humans really dislike exercise!
