Re: Puddle really fast breathing
I think you did the right thing. She's still able to do her normal hamster business. Until that goes, I'd be happy to work with her. As long as she's happy.
If she stops eating, drinking, is in pain and has had enough, or something becomes so debilitating that she can't function, then to euthanise is the kindest option. She doesn't seem to be there. I hope the antibiotics work.

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
So do I. She just had her second dose and some sweet corn and chocolate afterwards to take the taste away. Sat and ate both in bed.
I think she is weak and haven't noticed her go to her wter bottle so just gave her a drink with my finger over the top of a straw. She better not get used to waitress service!
Hoping she be up and about tomorrow.

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
That's good to hear. Hopefully those antibiotics are kicking in full force. Give her a nice pat for me.
You can try to trick her into getting water with some cucumber, or even baby food has moisture in it. It might help if she's a bit dehydrated.

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
Iv never given her cucumber, il try that thank you.
Iv put various treats around her cages so il know when I get back from work if she has had a good run around.

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
Puddle waking up bright eyed and bushy tailed! Best she has looked for a while now. But worried as she didn't eat the cucumber I gave her this morning but hopefully he was just full. Popped her cage on sofa with me last night so could keep eye on her and had tube disconnected so it just pointed onto the sofa, she had a good sniff and had a run on it with me.
Anti biotics certainly helping but she hates it! Always runs her face on the floor afterwards for some reason but she always gets a little bit of jam afterwards to take taste away!

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
She's lovely. I hope the antibiotics continue to help her. I certainly wouldn't be thinking about euthanasia at this point. She seems to be perking up very nicely.

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
She is but on the vets table after the vet had handled her for a little bit she just walked then toppled over and lay there still not moving. Thought she was dieing there and then. I instantly filled up and thought that was it.
Maybe it was to do with her inner ear and was balance?
She has never done that before or since.

Re: Puddle really fast breathing
It could have been a balance issue due to her ear and maybe combined with a stress and fear response being at the vet. All together, a bit too much for a little ham. I am really looking forward to her getting better and seeing her as a happy healthy ham.
