I am also of the "less is better" belief, since Coffee is elderly. Just watch it for any changes. As for his food, I'd crumble (not crush) the Teclad and oxbow so it's little easier for him to handle. His whole life he's been used to the smaller seed mix, so big giant blocks could be a bit much for him. You may be surprised...he might like them. Leave some bigger pieces, only because it's good for his teeth. He really is a cutie.

Alrighty. I'll try that later tonight. I gave him a piece of cucumber which he looooooooved. I'll give him more later but right now I'm happy to let him sleep. Unlike my other dwarfies he seems content to sleep most of the time, I'm sure because of his age.

He was awake for a bit so both SO and I handled him. I gave him a cucumber earlier and he nested with it, so his fur got damping a bit. More poops though! They're not wet though his bum looks a bit damp. He seems happy and was content to see us. I gave him more cucumber but put it in his bowl. He found it but had a hard time accessing it. I'm going to forgo new water bottle and wheel and get him a nice shallow dish for his food. The one he has right now is as big as he is and he's a bit too uncoordinated to get to it.

He's grooming in front of the water bottle, which could also be why he was a bit wet so I moved it to the side. I don't think he's drank a ton, but I'm keeping an eye on the levels. He's chewing on some food now so he can get food out of his bowl. I'm not going to change his cage. I think it would just be too confusing.

He also didn't want any yoghurt but loved the cucumber. He also liked the chicken and veg baby food I have and olive oil. We're lacking other veg (just carrots right now) but I'll try to pick up more tomorrow.

Suggestions?

LOL. He sounds so very cute. Be careful not to give him too much cucumber. Otherwise you'll get the other end of the rainbow.... Someone just recently posted where they used the top of a Pringles can as a hamster dish for an elderly hamster. Or was it on the DIY? Oh well, but it worked well for the senior hammy.

Yeah, he's only had two pieces but I may take out half. The Pringles lid is a good idea I'm sure we have one somewhere.

Ergh. It looks bigger today unfortunately. More poops around the cage, not wet, but he drank a good amount, finished off the cucumber and has been eating.

I handled him a bit and he didn't seem to mind, and we put a bit of polysporin on his bum then distracted him for a bit. He doesn't seem to be able to reach his bum so I don't think he'll groom it off himself. We figure if it's an infection the polysporin might help a little bit. If it's not helping we'll move to the lube.

SO and I thought it may just be bigger because of what he's eating, since he has been pooping more. Perhaps if its a hemorrhoid it's just bugged because he pooped more? Gosh I hope he's not in pain. I know they hide it well but he really doesn't seem like he is in pain. I'm keeping my eye on him over the next few days.
