How long can a hamster live?
I'm really worried my hamster will die one day. I know I will miss her if she dies. But I need to prepare =X

Huiyan,
I really dont mean to sound rude, but you should not be so paranoid about your hamsters death. Eventually yes it will die, but there no reason to pine over it now. You should be thinking about how nice it is you have your hammy now and enjoy those moments. Spending all the time you have her worrying about when she will die will just make you more upset that you didnt take the time to live in the nowand enjoy her when she was here.
Hamsters live anywhere from 1 1/2 year to about 2 years on average. But many have been known to live as long as four years and Im sure even 5! The first hamster I had only lived to be two years old before passing from old age. It seems as though you havent done to much research about hamsters. Why dont you have a read over the hamster central website at http://www.hamstercentral.com there are many helpful articles and things you can do to help your hamster live a longer life.
Please check this link below for many good articles on hamster health, from what veggies and treats to feed to hamster first aid kits and routine health checks and what to look for in an old hamster.

Huiyan, I did understand you, You aren't understanding me. I'm simply saying that you shouldn't worry about your hamster dieing unduly.
I never thought you meant that you wanted your hamster to die. I'm just telling you not to worry about when your hamster dies and to just enjoy her while she's still with you

Any pet dying is a very sad time and it's the worst aspect of keeping animals, that they will inevitable grow old and die and you will lose them.
It's only sad though because they give us so much joy in the first place, so all you can do is make the most of the time you have together and do your very best for them. Enjoy spending time with your hammy whilst she's here, and worry about other things when the time comes.

It is hard owning hamsters as they do burrow so deeply into our hearts and time passes so quickly, one day a jumpy baby, the next a more placid adult and then suddenly you start to notice the vitality and vigour is no longer there. All your hamster wants to do is sleep. And it can be just as painful when they are taken from us early with illness as we have had no time to prepare ourselves, but preparation or not deep down it hurts just the same in the end. With an average lifespan of only 1000 days we have to make the most of every one of them and enjoy their company while we can. Know they wont be here forever but don't let it overrule your emotions.

I agree, sweetie- I recently lost my precious little Hamish, last friday, in fact, and the pain now is very great. But while he was alive, I just enjoyed his company and made the most of the short time we had together. It did not make his passing any the easier, but at least I know that what time we had was good time..
Enjoy your little one, and be happy!
Hugs,
'Kat

Yes, enjoy the time you have with your hamster now. Live for the day. I always said 'If hamsters could live on love, then my guys would live forever' but they don't and the pain is always so bad when they leave us. Our Runty lived for over 3 yrs and he was the runt of the litter so you never know.
