Unhappy "URGENT" Eye infection?

Hi guys
I've posted before about Pumpkin having eye problems.
Tonight I got her out and her eye was closed again. She eventually opened it but there was a big red/brown squiggly thing on her eye (like the clear ones we humans get in our eyes)
This is the third time that eye has had this problem (though this is the first time I have seen the squiggly gunk). When it got to the second time I said to myself if it happened again i'll pop to the vets.
I was googling vets close to me and one came up which had a checker and I answered the questions asked.
When it got to "Is there any discharge from the eye" I put Yes.
It the asked "Is the discharge coloured or sticky" and I put Yes again.
It then straight away loaded up a page which said I should contact my vet immediately.
It said the coloured discharge usually means there is an infection.
I'm really worried and am taking her to the vets tomorrow (hopefully if I can persuade my boss to let me)
Is this the right thing to do? I told my friend and he said i'm probably overreacting and she's probably just had something in her eye but this is the third time now...
She chews her bars no matter what I do. The bar she chews most, she turns her head to chew it which means she closes her eye because it rubs the top of the bar. Do you think this could have caused it?
Advice? Help? Ahhhh

If it's an infection she needs antibiotics.
Fingers crossed you can get to the vet today. It may be that she's rubbed her eye whilst chewing or something had got in there that she can't get out herself.
Let us know how you get on.

If the discharge is red stained it means there is likely an infection. The chewing could well have damaged the tear duct causing inflammation and an infection. Damage to this and the tear gland can result in the hamster being troubled by eye issues for a long time. The vet can prescribe a different type of drop or gel to try and sort this out so it would be best to have her seen again.
