Food colouring?!
Can a hamster have tons of food colouring? Is it toxic? Grayci got ahold of a whole bottle of blue dye.

Re: Food colouring?!
Good grief! What did she do with it? I would watch her. Some food colourings can have an effect on sensitive people so you might want to watch her for a few days just to be sure she doesn't get diarrhea or anything like that.

Re: Food colouring?!
I wouldn't imagine that your hammy would actually drink all the food coloring. She might have tasted it and I would certainly watch her just in case she could be sensitive to it. I think, at most, it might color her poo and/or urine. So don't panic if that happens. Let us know how she is.

Re: Food colouring?!
I don't know how much she drank but she had it all over her front paws and her mouth was covered.

Re: Food colouring?!
Zebbecorn, is she still covered in blue? She probably bit the container open and it poured out on her. How on earth did she get into it? Your vet might be able to give you a clearer idea of any problems with the dye.

Re: Food colouring?!
In my personal experience in the food industry, blue food dye is the hardest to clean off anything. I once spilled it on a hard countertop and the colour never came out, no matter how much I scrubbed. I haven't willingly ingested any blue-dyed foods ever since! LOL
I'm afraid that you'll just have to wait for it to wear off. Hope she's ok!

Re: Food colouring?!
Most of the colouring has worn off, and she's still her spunky old gal self. I haven't seen any changes, though, thank goodness.

Re: Food colouring?!
Hammies never fail to amaze me! I have had visions of a blue hammy all day . Glad she's okay.
