Emi's ear wart is returning...
Hi all
As some of you may know from my previous thread, my 21 month old hybrid Emi had a wart removed from the inside of his ear a month ago. All went well and it he healed. He did seem slightly knocked out for a few days, but he was eventually OK.
I've noticed lately that the wart (it's definitely a wart, cauliflower like texture) has started to grow back.
I'm just wondering what you guys have done/would do in my situation? He's not a spring chicken now and he is slowing down. He's also got kidney problems meaning he's very prone to dehydration etc.
Obv ideally I'd want the wart removed again, but I don't know how sensible it would be to put Emi under again so soon and to potentially have to keep doing it. I don't really want him to go through it at his age.
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
That is a shame that it has come back so soon. I might be tempted to leave it a bit until he is fitter and then if it becomes a problem and is irritating him again then remove but this time the vet likely need to make a more extensive resection to ensure he gets the 'root' of the problem out.

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
This is rotten luck jess having gone through the surgery already. But soufflé is right, see how it goes and take things a step at a time. Your vet would probably give you two options, leave it and monitor it, or more surgery. I don`t know how viral these warts are and chances are they are driven by a virus of a pox type nature just as in humans, warts are usually attributed to the herpes virus which lies dormant until the immune system is low and the virus shows itself as a cold sore or a wart. Human warts can be burned off using a freezing technique, although I`m not sure if vets even practice this? Although it would probably still mean a light anaesthetic anyway given the nature of removal.
Hope Emi is okay and soldiers on regardless. x

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
I feel so sad
I'd been monitoring Emi's ear wart until he started to lose weight quickly. This wasn't actually anything unsual as this happened when we discovered his kidney problems 6 months ago. The wart was growing but didn't look obstructive. He's so wriggly though it was hard to ever get a good look. I'd sort of thought in my head that I wouldn't put him through more vets trips and operations. He's old now and his condition not as good as it was a few mths ago. I felt at peace with that decision.
However, over the last few days I noticed there seemed to be something behind the wart, inside the ear. I've been trying to get a look every day and have today managed to gage that there's a lot more going on in his ear than I thought it seems there's some sort of mass behind the original wart, I can feel it when I feel his behind his ear, externally. So it must be quite extensive.
I feel really guilty for not spotting it and for the fact that he looks so small now. He's really lively and always wants out, but he just looks so tiny.
I'm at a loss now as to what to do. I really didn't want to drag him to more vet appointments or through more procedures , he's two in January and it just seems kinder to give him a quiet life. However, his ear scares me. The growth must be making him feel poorly and I dread to think what it could do with the location it's in.
What would you do?

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
Aww I'm sorry to hear it is getting worse again. I would think it is the same growth but is down the ear canal now.
I would not put him through another op at this age myself but only you can decide Jesselle.
When our Harriet developed a tumour we did not do a 2nd op. She was elderly and we let her live a comfortable old age until we felt the time had come that she was not enjoying life and then gave her rest.
You WILL know because you love him and he will tell you when and if he needs help. For now keep a close eye on him and treasure his twilight times xx

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
Thanks soufflé. I agree, it's just a hard pill to swallow I love the little guy so much, I don't want to think he might be in discomfort.
He seems happy enough, he was on his wheel last night and he always wants to come out. He just looks so tiny!
I'm just going to keep him warm, loved and cared for now. And try not to get too upset when he comes out for cuddles!

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
Thanks Evelin I'm hoping it's not going to cause any issues for him. Though it can't be great having a growth inside your ear.
He's so full of life at the moment! I can't keep up. Will post some vids on his thread tomorrow

Re: Emi's ear wart is returning...
I am sorry to hear of Emi’s growth.
It is a good sign for now that he is still loving his wheel. Let’s hope that the growth is very, very slow growing.
I don’t believe that Emi could have more care and love than he receives from you. Thinking of you both and enjoy your special times together. He is a great character.
