I have a baby Syrian hamster whom I got from a breeder on Saturday, since then she has lost 7g in weight.
She became obsessed with her wheel, she was exhausting herself so it has become a supervised treat just now while she settles. Her cage is a little bare right now as I'm still to stock up on tubes and toys etc. She is eating and drinking but with all the excitement isn't particularly bothered about treats.
What can I do to keep the weight on her? She is from a show breeder so she is quite a size already but I don't want her to lose much more at all.
I'd just keep the wheel out as much as needed. We tend to keep hams away from wheels until 8-10 weeks anyway
Hopefully she'll gain her weight back now she can't use the wheel as much
I agree, just use the wheel sparingly at the moment until she settles in and gets used to her new surroundings. Running of the wheel is often a sign of nervousness anyway.
