I hope everything goes well on Tuesday and that they can remove everything and the problem will be resolved.
Start giving her a little dark green veg to provide iron (spinach or broccolli) to help her blood count and prepare her for the op. When she comes home she will be best in a 'hospital set up cage' where everything is on one level, wheel is out and she has a water bowl as it can be uncomfortable to stretch up to drink from a bottle.
She will appreciate some easy to eat food like babyfood and some porridge when she comes home.
Wishing her all the best xx

thanks for the advice, as for the greens, is it best we boil / steam it first or would she prefer it raw? we're obviously nervous for the op, but we feel as though we don't have any other choice, if it's only going to get worse, she means the world to us. shes a little trooper so we know she'll give it her best shot. shes currently digging into some food right now. it's good to see she hasn't lost her appatite. shes also had a little run around the front room too. and then had a little run in her wheel (which she hasn't done in a while!), so she is pretty active, considering! although she has been sleeping a bit more. sorting her cage out won't be a problem. we have a rotastack cage for her, which we customised ourself, it has 3 levels, but she sleeps on the bottom one anyway and it's made out of plastic, so no bars for her to worry about. i've read that it's best to leave them be for a couple of days after, to naturally recover from it all? we will keep you updated.

I'd give them raw but not too much as you don't want to upset her tummy mind!
We have always kept up a normal routine after an op and been guided by the hammy. They do bounce back quickly but they need medicated and also the stitches checked to ensure they are not inflamed or pulled at so I doubt you could just leave her. You will be surprised how soon they are up and about! We wouldn't be like that after a big op I'm sure!

nah thats fair enough, i'm sure i read somewhere that it's good to leave them a couple of days, but what you're saying makes more sense! we won't push her too much, but she'll be getting alot of attention when shes back anyway! we're quietly confident, obviously there is that major risk, but like i said before, we don't feel we have any other choice. she's roughly 18 months, so there still alot of time in her yet! the vet we seen yesterday said she was a hamster lover herself, we requested her to do the op and she said she is one of the two more experienced vet in rodent operations working at the clinic. she seemed positive which made us feel better. we're going to keep everything crossed for little archie.

Hi everyone. Archie had his operation today and unfortunately he didn't wake up from the anesthetic. The vet said he had a very large tumor in his womb which had spread to his ovaries. Thanks for all your advice and support. I know his op was for the best but we are really going to miss him he was our baby. RIP smarchie xxx

I am so very sorry. You did a wonderful time in giving her a chance colabeare. Sadly it was not to be and she was called peacefully while asleep. I'm sure she felt your love as she flew free.
Dance on the stars Archie and send that rainbow to your mum xx
